Well Happy New Year, one and all!
I can't believe it's taken me so long to post again! With The holidays and being sick throughout the entirety of the holidays, I've completely lost track!
I HAVE been busily plugging away, painting as per usual but started this year off a bit differently than I normally do! This year I'm delving a bit further and with more seriousness at oil painting. A medium that has provided me with numerous frustrations over my years and that takes too damn long to dry!
WHY try it then?
Well it's also beautiful when it does work, luminous and glows. Very pretty. I also want to force myself to slow down a bit. Weird I know, but I do.
I painted 65 different pieces last year! 65! That's amazing and unheard of for me and I'm very proud of that accomplishment. Not because it's a huge number but because it meant I KEPT painting the whole year. Didn't give up, didn't stop because I lacked confidence or anything. I painted because I wanted to, and although my sales are starting slow I did sell, and I liked every thing I did.
But now... now that I know I can do this job, that I can believe in myself enough to paint regularly, I want to slow the process down a bit and give myself time to mull over mistakes and to actually fix them.
Something that's a bit hard to do with previous illustrations. Sooooo, oil paint it is. It has forced me already to be more thoughtful of where I place my brush and I already see a difference. Plus taking this time has also allowed my mind to wander to the story of my painting...and lo and behold!, I have a HUGE backstory to my piece, which has led to a slowly coming together children's book, of which I am SUPER SUPER excited to share! Each panel will be painted with oil and it's going to take a couple months, but I hope by the spring/summer to have it completed and not only published then but to be having a show with the artwork and story presented in gallery format! And invite kids! Lots of them!
Anywho...not going to spoil the entire thing, but the mind has plans! And the plans are good!
Stay tuned and stay inspired my friends!
